For those of you who haven’t heard, Gerard passed away on Friday, October 1st, back in Bed 23 in the spinal ward at the Austin Hospital, after taking ill on theThursday morning. Needless to say, we are all devastated and know that many will share in our loss. We already miss his cheeky grin, his devilish sense of humour, the way that he was always working on a new angle, a new project, a new and better way to do things. He loved change and making things better, not just for us and himself, but for everyone. He loved teaching and learning new things and pushing the boundaries. We were privileged to have had him in all of our lives.
Gerard’s legacy will be the Food Forest at VASS. Meetings, planning and fundraising have continued with Max, Zac and myself and the Global Gardens of Peace team. We meet again with Yooralla in the next couple of weeks.
Thank you all so much for sharing Gerard’s Food Forest vision and what will now be his living legacy to all those who live at VASS. Thanks to the Last Hurrah funerals for taking Gerard on his final “road trip” and to everyone for their support. There will be a celebration of his life once restrictions ease.
Sue, Max and Zac xx
